About Us
Springtide Farm is well known for its large, correct, often silver colored Cashmere goats. We continually evaluate our individual goats, and every year fiber samples from each goat are sent into the lab for objective measurements.
With foundation stock that have excellent fiber and superb conformation, Springtide Cashmere goats stand out in any gathering. The fiber from the Springtide herd is processed into roving for hand spinning and both lace and sport weight yarns for knitting. Springtide Farm also has several knitting patterns that complement the Springtide Cashmere yarn or roving.
Peter Goth and Wendy Pieh own and manage Springtide Farm. Peter is a true visionary and amazing teacher, who is also a board certified emergency medicine doctor. He teaches emergency and field medicine in the teaching facility at the farm when he is not conducting seminars in goat husbandry and specifically on Cashmere goat topics. Peter is one of the few approved judges of Cashmere Goats in the US, and travels around the country to judge various Cashmere Goat Shows. He is an eager and committed learner, and brings great energy to all of his projects. You'll like him.
Wendy is a state representative, where she serves as the House Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry. She grew up on a farm, and spent many years working with Outward Bound all over the world. With a master's degree in organization development, Wendy balances herself between working on behalf of the people of the state of Maine and her deep commitment to the farm. She has a sixth sense about how the animals are doing, who is about to birth, or who just needs an extra pet, and she will engage you in her enthusiasm for Cashmere Goat farming.
While the mainstay at Springtide Farm is the Cashmere goats, there are also several draft and warmblood horses that help with chores and enjoy life on the farm. Great Pyrenees dogs live with and protect the goats from predators, as do a couple of friendly donkeys.
Wendy and Peter are very committed to raising healthy, happy animals, and the friendliness of the goats, dogs, horses, and donkeys clearly reflects their involvement. The animals are free to roam about large pastures, eat locally grown natural foods, take shelter whenever they want it, and expect a prompt response when they call for attention.
Springtide Farm is truly a wonderful place to visit and learn, and we hope to see you soon.
